  • the Corporal works of mercy

    • The corporal works of mercy consist especially in feeding the hungry, sheltering the homeless, clothing the naked, visiting the sick and imprisoned, and burying the dead. Among all these, giving alms to the poor is one of the chief witnesses to fraternal charity: it is also a work of justice pleasing to God.  (Catechism of the Catholic Church 2447)

    • Communion to the Homebound

      For those who are homebound and wish to receive Our Eucharistic Lord in Holy Communion, Please call the parish office for arrangements at  217-345-3332
    • St. Vincent de Paul Society

      St. Vincent de Paul Society is an international charitable organization serving
      those in need through home visits. The Charleston council meets Tuesdays at 5:45 p.m. in the lounge at the Newman
      Catholic Center. Two Vincentians volunteer to be on call weekly. They answer phone messages at Newman and
      arrange to visit those in need at mutually convenient times. Aid is typically given for rent, food, utilities, and gas.
      Fundraising is another aspect of Vincentian service. Help is needed for Trivia Night, Walk for the Poor, Bake Sales

    • Coalition for People in Need

      Volunteers who work with the Charleston Community organization of CPN whose mission is to help those of our community who are most in need. Contact – Judi Vaughn & Chris Sims
    • Soup stop

      New Hope Worship Center

      Hours of Operation:

      M - F from 11am - 12:30pm

      (Soup Stop provides a hot meal as well as "to go" lunches)

    • Hedwig Haus

      St. Hedwig Haus of Hospitality is a Catholic Worker house serving women and children in difficult situations. Volunteers are needed to be “on the house”, which means being present for a 3 hour shift. The time can be spent visiting with the guests, doing some light chores, or assisting with meal preparations. Fundraising assistance is also vital. Help is needed with our annual Oktoberfest and Soup Supper.

    • Helping Hands

      A special ministry that will provide meals for parishioners who have medical treatments, surgery, or other situations of need.

    • Pregnancy Help

      Choices Pregnancy Center - We empower women and families facing unexpected pregnancies in east central Illinois by providing information, free services, and practical support with a holistic and compassionate approach. We give each of our clients the care and attention they need, empowering them to make informed decisions for themselves and their future.

    • Matthew 25

      Formed by individuals and churches in the Charleston area as a way to better assist the homeless. Volunteers are needed to partner with the guests who stay in the Matthew 25 apartments as they work through the necessary steps to regain stability in their lives.

    • Transportation Providers

      A group of parishioners helping other parishioners with their transportation needs to and from Mass and, on occasion, with other transportation needs they may have.

    • Habitat for Humanity

      An organization that helps families in building and improving places to call home. We believe affordable housing plays a critical role in strong and stable communities.
